ECAS Agenda : Why Fear Death, When Everyday Kashmir Dies a Little Inside

Kashmir is a contested state between India and Pakistan. It has seen violent clashes over twenty years.

Pelting Indian Army with stones, started long back in 2010 when the civilians found three dead bodies of the local. When the smoke cleared more than four hundred police and soldiers were injured ;one hundred and eighty Kashmiris were dead, many of them were children, thousands were detained and when they emerged, they were shown with the chilling tale of brutal torture; the practice that go back two decades.

Torture is not a historical issue, it is happening right now in Kashmir Valley. Kashmir is the most beautiful Front Line in the world; has raised the tensions of war between India and Pakistan. The Muslim majority has the long campaign for Independence; making India's Kashmir the heaviest militarized region in the world. 

There has been a cat and mice game between policemen and young generation of Kashmir. These youngsters are funded by Terrorist Organisation for pelting stones at the armed forces of India. These youngsters are cheered not only by Terrorist Organisation but also by the provoking neighbor of India: Pakistan. The young generation is too afraid of police and they never dare to come outside the house and the old people are not allowing their young ones to move outside the house as they say 'Armed Forces will beat their children, then what will they do?' 

Since 1989 no single case bought against Indian Armed Forces and Police has been allowed to proceed. The Indian Army says it has court martialed 59 soldiers in that time but will neither name the men nor explain the charges

Torture is a widespread phenomenon here and the issue has to be highlighted. Torture has been used very effectively by the law enforcing agencies. Most of the victims; they accept it, they feel lucky that they are alive, they have not been killed.

The Past Army Movements and Government Actions on the families have made the young generation of Kashmir very anxious and very angry; towards the Indian Constitution, Indian Troopers, the Indian rule. 

In Kashmir, there's only one thing on the news; today someone's been killed here, tomorrow someone's has been killed there, the next day someone's goes missing. Lots of people go missing, nobody knows how they have gone missing, or why they have gone missing, Nobody knows, their mum and dad don't know. So the people can't go out, they're helpless, they can't do anything.
