    Patiala, India: Stricter Lockdown on Weekend enforced in Punjab and the visitors ill needs to carry E-Pass for the necessary movements. The novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic has spread across 213 countries and territories around the world have reported a total of 75,36,472 confirmed cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 that originated from Wuhan, China. Lately, the Chief Minister of Punjab had decided to extend the curfew with lockdown till 31st May after the rising number of cases in the state. As of now, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India stands at 2,97,623 and in Punjab at 2,887 with total number of deaths at 8,489 and 59 respectively.     The Punjab government on Thursday tightened the lockdown rules on the weekends and public holidays to constrain the spread of the deadly Covid-19 disease, permitting travel only to those in essential services and e-pass holders.

Besides, over 95 per cent of the 47 Covid deaths in the state have occurred in patients who had co-morbidities, mainly those afflicted with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and diabetes.

    Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday launched a telemedicine programme between Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana, and IMAS Healthcare Private Limited (IMAS), the official facilitator of physician-to-physician video consultations for Cleveland Clinic (US) in India on a host of medical problems, including Covid-19. He expressed pride that CMC, under the leadership of its Director Dr William Bhatti, will be the first academic institution to partner with IMAS for the Cleveland Clinic video consultations in India.

    Eight people, from Jagatpura village in Mohali district, were cured of coronavirus and discharged on Sunday. They were discharged after testing negative for the deadly disease in two consecutive tests. The district has reported a total of 63 cases, out of which 22 have been cured, 39 are active and two died.

    In all, 80 buses were sent to bring back stranded pilgrims at Hazur Sahib (Nanded) in Maharashtra on Saturday. Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said AC buses of Punjab Roadways and PRTC were being sent to bring back the pilgrims and the cost would be borne by the state. He said three drivers, a conductor and a policeman had been deployed in each bus.

    All six Patiala cases came from Rajpura, which alone has 42 Covid-19 patients of the total 61 in the district. The chain was started from a 60-year-old woman. All new cases are from one family, including a woman, her two sons and two daughters-in-law, health officials said.

    According to the media bulletin, six fresh cases were reported from Patiala, two from Mansa and one each from Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar. The situation seems to be going from bad to worse in Rajpura as six more positive cases were reported today. With this, the number of cases in Rajpura stands at 36 while the district has got 55 cases in total.

    Reports of 29 suspected patients tested negative in Bathinda district on Friday. A total of 210 samples had been collected in the district till now. Of these, reports of 188 patients have come negative and reports of 22 patients are awaited. The samples of two suspected patients, who tested negative earlier, have again been sent to the lab. Apart from this, samples of 20 patients collected in recent days have also been sent for examination.

    With no new Covid-19 case for 28 days, SBS Nagar today entered the list of 12 districts in the green zone. Moga, Muktsar and Amritsar in Punjab, and Kaithal in Haryana have entered the group of 78 districts with no new cases in 14 days which puts them in the orange zone. 

    The other districts with no cases for 28 days are Mahe in Puducherry, Kodagu and Chitradurga in Karnataka, Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand, Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Imphal West (Manipur), Aizawl West (Mizoram), Bhadradari Kothagudem (Telangana), Pilibhit and South Goa.


    Among 33 new districts in nine states which today entered the group with no case for 14 days are Hailakandi, South Mancachar from Assam; Kaithal from Haryana; Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Alappuzha from Kerala; Vidisha from Madhya Pradesh; Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal from Odisha; Moga, Amritsar, Muktsar from Punjab; Sidipet, Pedapally, Nagarkurnool, Mulugu, Janagaon, Mahabubabad, Mahaboobnagar and Sangareddy from Telangana; Udham Singh Nagar and Almora from Uttarakhand; Hathras, Allahabad, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri, Maharajganj, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Kaushambi and Pratapgrah from UP.

    The state government has issued an advisory in connection with the safe celebration of the holy month Ramadan in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.A government spokesperson said the sole objective was to avert community transmission. All mosques, "dargahs", "imambaras" and other religious institutions will remain closed, and there will be a ban on congregational prayers (Nimaz-e-Bajamaat), including the Jumma and Taraweeh prayers, the spokesperson said.

    Punjab reported four new coronavirus cases from Jalandhar on Friday. According to the information, a one-year-old child and an 8-year-old girl among the four have tested positive for the coronavirus.

    In Patiala, the wife and two children of an infected social worker tested positive. Civil Surgeon said all three were shifted to the isolation ward of Government Rajindra Hospital. He said they were earlier home-quarantined. The Health Department informed that around six persons who came in contact with the family members would also be tested after two days. Following three news cases in the district, the department started the screening process of the entire city.

As per the department, Mohali district tops the chart with six such spots. It is followed by SBS Nagar, Amritsar and Jalandhar districts with two each.     Rajpura, India: A Jalandhar woman who died recently was diagnosed with coronavirus on Sunday, taking Punjab's death tally to 12 out of 167 recorded infections. After reports of a woman from Jalandhar's Kotla Heran village who sources say was aged between 58-60 years showed she had COVID-19, the district's health team made their way to the area.
