NEW DELHI, INDIA: The motion is admitted for discussion when a minimum of 50 members of the house supported the motion. This eventually has turned to Modi and Shah's masterstroke
The motion of No Confidence is a statement or vote which states that a person(s) in a position of responsibility (government, managerial, etc.) is no longer deemed fit to hold that position, perhaps because they are inadequate in some respect, are failing to carry out obligations, or are making decisions that other members feel detrimental.
As of July 2018, 26 no-confidence motions have been moved. Former Prime Minister oF India, Indira Gandhi faced the most number of no-confidence motions – 15 times, followed by Lal Bahadur Shastri and Narasimha Rao (3 times), Morarji Desai (2 times) and Jawahar Lal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now Narendra Modi. All the no-confidence motions have been defeated except when Prime Minister Morarji Desai resigned during the discussions on 12 July 1979
Moreover, this is not a new thing happening and the ruling party is very much confident to defeat this motion as they have the significant numbers. BJP themselves have 274 seats and to defeat this motion, 267 votes are required. Alliance of BJP, the NDA has around 314 seats in the House. On the other hand, the opposition wanted to use this platform to attack the government of India in various issues like Mob Lynching (a serious threat to democracy), Dalit atrocities, Fuel price hike, unemployment and many more ahead of the General Elections 2019.
Both the Opposition and Ruling party will debate the whole day on these issues. Though the opposition party was demanding no-confidence motion, they never thought the speaker of the house who is a BJP MP, Sumitra Mahajan will accept this move and order to conduct this move within 2 days.
Now both Congress and the opposition allies want to postpone this motion. The same parties who demanded no-confidence motion for a long time. Both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah played a masterstroke and they will definitely attack opposition for not allowing Parliament to function smoothly. They will use this platform to speak about their achievements. We all know when it comes to debate, no one can match the skills of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
