Mansa, June 8
A 17-year-old girl, Ramandeep Kaur, from Kotdharmu village in Mansa reportedly committed suicide on Friday. Her family members claimed she took the extreme step as she didn't have the facility to attend online classes for her Class XI studies. However, the police have refuted the theory.
Her father Jagseer Singh, a farm labourer, said, "My daughter was demanding a smartphone as she wanted to study, but I was unable to fulfill her desire as I do not have money for it, due to which she ended her life."
However, a senior police functionary refuted the theory and stated that in the initial probe, it had come to light that her mother had an illicit affair and she had gone out with the person, when her father returned home. The girl committed suicide in tension, according to the preliminary inquiry. He said the girl's mother had come up with the story to cover up the matter, but the probe was underway.
