Ludhiana, December 15

Attributing disruption of rail traffic in the region to the farmers' agitation, the Northern Railway authorities have further extended the cancellation, partial cancellation and diversion of trains till December 18.

Accordingly, the 05211/12 Dibrugarh-Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express special train (December 16 and 17) and 09613/14 Ajmer-Amritsar-Ajmer Express (December 16 and 17) will remain cancelled.

Railways officials said the 08237/38 Korba-Amritsar-Korba-Chhattisgarh Express train (December 16 to 18); 02357/58 Kolkata-Amritsar-Kolkata Durgiana Express (December 16, 17); 05933/34 Dibrugarh-Amritsar-Dibrugarh Express (December 17, 18), 02407/08 Newjalpaiguri-Amritsar-Newjalpaiguri Express (December 16 to 18) and 04651/52 Jaynagar-Amritsar-Jaynagar Humsafar Express (December 15, 16) will be short-terminated at and short-originated from Ambala Cantt. All these trains will remain partially cancelled between Ambala Cantt and Amritsar.

Further, the 02715/16 Nanded-Amritsar-Nanded Sachkhand Express (December 16 to 18) will be short-terminated at and short-originated from New Delhi. The train will remain partially cancelled between New Delhi and Amritsar. The 02925/26 Bandra Terminus-Amritsar-Bandra Terminus Pashchim Express (December 16, 17) will short-terminate at and short-originate from Chandigarh. The train will remain partially cancelled between Chandigarh and Amritsar.

In addition, the 04653/54 Newjalpaiguri-Amritsar-Newjalpaiguri Express (December 16, 18) will short-terminate at and short-originate from Saharanpur. The train will remain partially cancelled between Saharanpur and Amritsar.

Even though the Railways blames the farmers' agitation for not being able to run the trains as per schedule, it is beyond comprehension as to why several trunk-route trains like the New Delhi-Amritsar-New Delhi Swarn Shatabdi Express, New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi and New Delhi-Lohian Khas-New Delhi Sarbat Da Bhala Express trains, which had resumed operation after the unlock, are still not being operated while other trains on these routes have resumed operations.
